The 1988 CBR400RR-J introduced the RR name with an aluminium twin-spar frame and a braced 'Tri-Arm' swingarm. Its gear-driven-cam inline four made the 59 PS ceiling of the Japanese 400 class at very high revs. Compared with Honda's own VFR400R V4 it felt roomier and buzzier but less sharp.
